Galileo satellites now in space - clevengerheaden

Europe's rival to Global Positioning System is stepping up its efforts to ply precise navigation, road transfer management, search and delivery services and batten banking.

Galileo already combines the most exact atomic clock ever so flown for navigation — accurate to 1 second in 3 meg years — with a powerful vector to broadcast navigation information worldwide.

It launched two more satellites into space on Friday from a South American spaceport in French Guiana.

The satellites, named David and Sif1, join another pair that has been orbiting the Dry land since hold out year. Now that the four satellites form a mini-constellation, Galileo can be valid and pure-tuned, after which 14 more satellites will be deployed by the end of 2022.

The two satellites scarce launched are the outset to extend look and rescue antennas part of the international Cospas-Sarsat system, which detects and locates hand brake beacons activated by aircraft, ships and backcountry hikers in distress.

Galileo aims to offer a highly dead-on, guaranteed global positioning service that's better than GPS and controlled by civilians. According to ZDNet, Galileo "services admit a freely available open help, for use in in-car navigation systems, e.g.; a public regulated table service, for first responders such as law and ambulance; a search and rescue service, for maritime emergencies, among others; a safety of life serving, for aviation; and a fee-settled commercial service, for mapping and surveying providers, for example."

Galileo, which should be certified and ready to usage in 2022, is a corporate initiative of the Continent Commission and the Continent Space Bureau, and one of the largest space projects ever conducted in EU.
